why not some thing in between ? along the lines of hyper certate or custom r 2500, if price is an issue ? then for slightly more your probably better off looking at something like those

hey guys,
im in the market for a new reel and am tossing up between the daiwa luvias 2500 and the steez 2500,
obviously the steez is a lot more $$
does anyone have both...or had good experiences with them
is it worth going a steez or is a luvias the go
any advice appreciated,
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,
I guess it depends on what you intend to use the reel for. My wife has a 2500 luvias which is great for estuary species but when we get to fish Snapper on plastics we both use 2500 certates; just a stronger reel in our opinion. If you want the reel to be genuinely light and multi purpose go a Steez or if you can afford the exist which at that sort of money is not that much more expensive. If you are a freshwater specialist then the Luvias will be perfect; great reel for fresh water and estuary species.

The Exist and Steez are the same reel, literally. There are aesthetic differences in the models, and the price difference is a result of the reels being purchased by Daiwa Australia from 2 different markets, along with the exists generally coming with finesse custom spools.
I agree that the certates are definitely a hardier reel than the luvias. I've had my certates for over 4 years and they keep coming back to tackle fish way out of their weight division week after week. Best value for money in the spinning reel market.
I was thinking the same thing before I purchased my last reel. In the end I got a 2508 Steez at an awesome price so I suggest shopping around as there are some bargains out there. Especially with how good our AUD is at the moment. You should be able to pickup a brand new Steez from the states at a very good price compared to what they sell for here.
I think we all missed the point of Ben's original question " is it worth going a steez or is a luvias the go"?
There are so many options. Although the Luvias is one great little reel i would try to afford some thing a little better. As i said before it all depends on what you intend to use it for. Our certate 2500r's will catch anything from flathead to Barra although we mainly use them on Snapper; very versatile, they are one tough reel. All the certate range including the Hyper are great although much heavier reels. The Luvias will also do any thing a certate does but just not as well or as long as the more expensive reel. If weight is an issue for you then the Steez is the way to go. If price is an issue then i am confidant that the Luvias will give you many years of trouble free fishing dependant upon the type of fishing you intend using it for. Purchase the best you can afford is generally a good practice no matter the brand.

I reckon if you are ristricted on price then the Luvias is a top reel. I have had the older model Luvias for ages & it has performed awesome. For such a small reel it has caught some awesome fish.
Is the Steez worth the extra dollars??? probably not, but thats not the reason why we spend so much on tackle?? If you are happy with the way the Luvias feels then go for it, you can't go wrong & I'm sure you will be happy either way.
I have been using a new Luvias reel for the last 18 months and i must say i am disappointed by it's longevity.
The bearings have clapped out on me, not just recently either! I am fastidious on reel maintenence and storgae but they still have perished, unlike all my shimano's or other top line diawa's which are in great order. I would consider it a 'freshwater' reel at best.
Out of the box it was super-smooth and the drag is excellent. The reel is nice and light, and i WISH i could say it has held up well. I WISH!!!!
I would spend the extra and go the Steez or look at the certate...my certate has lasted 4 years of solid abuse and its still as smooth now as when i bought it.

luvias u made a great choice, steez u still made a great choice. either reel u decide on wont let u down mate.... the yellahunter is back!!
(when Im dead) my biggest FEAR is that my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.........
thanks for all the tips guys,
ended up with the luvias, should be a sweet reel.
I really only fish for bass anyways
the yellahunter is back buddy!!! haha
Cheers,
Ben
Sure...anything is possible. But i think i am under the impression that if it is assembled elsewhere other than Japan...Kevvie no buy.
What will be the ultimate test is if the shimano reels i have purchased assembled in Malaysia perish quickly as well, then it may be a bad pattern. Only time and money will tell.
But if you want to use your reel for bass, the luvias will be awesome. As i said, i loved it when it was new...but now its goooone!

Yeah it does have CRBB's but i have had ARB's degrade too over time. They are not 100% resistent to salt.
Where Daiwa let themselves down is the bearing in the handle. It is exposed to the elements where shimano's are shielded thus lasting for longer. This is the main instigator here. Plus the roller brearing is a little shot too, but that can be expected.
