Thread: Homemade berley.

    Re: Homemade berley.

You guys that freeze in blocks and say it lasts all day in a burley pot must live in tassie...

One of you said 'Cup Size"?

I reckon a cup size burley ice brick soaked in the brine would last all of about 5 mins in moreton bay, esp with gentle flow / bobing around...

I have frozen 2L ice cream containers and used those - and they lasted about an hour to 90 mins in the burley pot with gentle swell / current.

As for what I use - what ever scraps I have. Fish are omnivores - not just meat - so I use any old fish frames, old bait, bread crumbs for bulk, left over potatoes and vegies mushed up - and some tuna oil... If you dont have a burley pot, just have a 2L bucket with a couple of dozen 3-5mm holes drilled around it... soak that over the size with about 2m of rope.... and it wafts out in a steady stream.

Naaa... all day no way...... but if you make a bit of a stiff porage........it holds lots longer than a straight water base.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
