Let me be the first to thank for taking such a considerable amount of time and the effort in your review. This sort of technical break down provides a very valuable tool for learning more about the engineering that goes into tackle for those interested.

    Thanks again.

I certainly did enjoy your very thorough review....You seem to have a very balanced view towards giving the facts about the particular reels you review, without denigrating one brand or the others..Congratulations Alan on a terrific report-even though I would never buy one of these reels_too BIG for bass_I appreciate the effort you have put in to give us your findings.

Mate, you are the man, classic review, much appreciated by myself and , no doubt most of the ausfish community who are technically minded and like to know where our money is going when we buy "top end" gear.
Interested in what do you think of the Stella FD where smaller size reels are concerned ?

Magnificent reels. Think of them as the freshwater mirror reflection of the SW reels. In 2005 they released the FB series to lay the ground for an ungraded SW, but they scrapped those plans quickly and spent more time in R&D until they came with the FD in 2007. When those little reels proved to be winners, they built the SW version on them changing some parts here and there to make them suitable for heavy saltwater use.

The main gear of the FD is similar to the SW with the same bronze coating, but the FD has hardened brass pinions. SW take most of their features from the FD such as the rigid support drag, the 3BB oscillation, the spare handle shaft, the one piece wire, the aero wrap line lay, and that mind bugling reverse tapered spool lip with its coating that for reasons I still can't understand makes it cast as if devils were pulling the line (I'd appreciate it if someone who specialises in aerodynamics can examine this and explain to us).

Thanks mate for the kind praise
