Thread: Towing a Kayak

    Towing a Kayak

Just to follow on from my question several days ago on towing a Kayak behind my tinnie.

I took Steven M's advise and made a halter up on the front. Like a chin strap.

Gave it a test on Somerset and had no problems. Took it up to 20k and could have gone to 30 I am sure.

Turned it across my wash a few times.

If anyone needs to do this then have plenty of tow rope so you can position it back in your wake where it travels ok. If it travels nose up you are on the right track.

Out in the briny stuff where your hooks rust and you have to put up with chop and swell it could be a different story. Someone may like to comment on that.

    Regards Gordon

Glad it worked for ya Gordie

the trick is to get the nose out of the water
    Cheers

Don't tie it off to the back of your tinny but just have one wrap around a bollard and that way if it flips you can release the rope rather than sink or damage both your boat and the kayak. Towing at speed unless there is an observer in the boat is a worry
