Thumbs up Re: Moreton Bay EPA Zones -GPS marks

Thanks to Honda900 for all the work! About to merge his work into my new Lowrance HDS-5, fingers crossed.

EPA has now posted the MP zones in Microsoft Excel format at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/publications/p02914.html

Also, info on GDA94 Datum Vs WGS84 can be found here http://www.icsm.gov.au/gda/wgs84fact.pdf (attached as well) for those interested.

    Hi Honda....Great effort!

Hi Baithoven....it appears the links to the excel file on the EPA site don't work anymore.

Anywho....I have done the CSV File and also an XLS. Please see links below.
If the links expire, please email me at scuba_dave@live.com and I will send it to you. The files are in Excel 2007 format. If you are using an earlier version, email me and I will convert them and send to you.

    XLXS - https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.p...Q1JOQnl4dnc9PQ

Information is based on Honda's data.

    Cheers!

GPS XLS file can be downloaded from here. Their site is a PITA to find stuff on at the best of times.

Re: Moreton Bay EPA Zones -GPS marks

I've managed to create a Garmin IMG file with the green zones in it.
I can make them show up as coloured areas, but haven't cracked making them transparent shaded areas so the depth contours can still be seen underneath.
At present I can see the numbers, but not the shades of the map.
Anyone been down that path before?

This is what I have so far

having previously used Honda's efforts to great use, I created closed loop routes for my Lowrance LCX-111C-HD, so when I knew I was in, close, or approaching a MP, I could bring up the 'route' in 'preview' mode, and see the closed route on the screen, and my position relative to it. (happy to provide these 'route' files in .rte (Navionics) or .usr (Lowrance) versions.

BUT.....just got off the phone to Navionics in Sydney re: an upgrade to my Gold map - Patrick there tells me that he new map has the Qld/Moreton Bay MP's on it! Existing map owners 50% off at $198 (yes, $198, no typo). Quick turnaround within a day or so.

Im a bit slow on this stuff Honda. I downloaded the garmin doc. I then renamed and it default to .php extension. I then hit open in Mapsource and chose that file and there are now 700 odd wapoints, but I cant see any tracks shown up as greenzones...is this a display issue that I have yet to master in the software?

Or, just looking at Blackened's post do I join the dots with a route/track?

    Cheers and thanks

    ozscott,

Yes, Join the dots for the Green zones you want, on the lowrance or garmin you create a route then turn the route on when you want to view it. on the lowrance it is on by default.

Re: Moreton Bay EPA Zones -GPS marks

Finally got around to putting all the green zones in an IMG file and creating a setup routine to install them into mapsource.
Even though my Garmin has all the green zones on it, my failing eyesight means I can't easily see them when moving in the boat as they are only displayed with a thin outline.

The setup file contained in the link below will install the map into MapSource.

It can then be transferred to your chart plotter will display as a transparent overlay when zoomed in below about 3nm range on your plotter.
You can also copy the image file named "Moreton Bay Green Zones.img" from teh installation location (C:\Garmin\Maps\Moretone Bay Green Zones\) to an SD card with a sub-folder named GARMIN if you wish to view it in Homeport, or to use it on a plotter with an SD card.
e.g. If your SD card is in drive H: then it must go in H:\Garmin\ for either Homeport or your plotter to see it.

If you're running a G2 vision card then you MUST put this map on a seperate card.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS MAP ONTO YOUR ORIGINAL G2 VISION CARD OR YOU MAY LOSE ALL DATA FROM IT!!!!
You can't use this and your G2 Vision card at the same time.

This IMG file is based on the data from National Parks and Wildlife which can be downloaded here
    http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/mo...oordinates.xls

Please not that as the NPWS data is in some cases vague as to the boudaries, I have modified the boundaries in cases where it would not diosplay well on a chart plotter. E.g. when the zone is the entrance to the creek, I have created a boundary covering the creek, lake or island.

This map is meant to give an easy visual indication if you are near a green zone only!

Do NOT rely on it as an indication of whether you can legally fish in a particular area!

It can be downloaded here (AF doesn't allow uploading ZIP files)

    Usual disclaimers.
All care taken but no responsibility taken for any damge, costs etc incurred through the use of this data.
    Cheers,
    Owen
