Eating fish from gold coast..

i'm pretty sure this is like old school stuff.. mah friend's friend told him them that goldcoast fish contained high levels of mercury due to pollution... now i have eaten fish from the canals before and i have not felt any crazier than before...
just wanting to know your thoughts..

Rule of thumb...at least my rule of thumb and I am still alive and kicking healthily so it must work is: any fish with a mouth that faces down or is a top order predator and it lives/is caught in consistantly discoloured water downstream in a catchment that is well populated esp with a high water use industrial area in the mix somewhere.... are best left alone, this also includes Crabs/Crustacea and bi valves.
