Fishing at Tugun Desal?
Just wondering if anyone has fished around here lately. A mate and I were thinking about giving it a go. Heard reports of Cobia hanging around so wanted to give it a shot.
If anyone has any tips or hints for fishing this spot in regards to baits/lures/sp's it would be much appreciated.
Ps. Hope everyone had a great chrissy. I know i did with the purchase of my new 5000 Stradic and Wilson LCS 5-10kg combo
Cheers

Also if there are any spots around that we can find without a GPS as my mates one is in the shop at the moment being fixed. Maybe somewhere to have a troll for macks and the likes or drop some livies. Anywhere from the Seaway to tweed will be in range for us.
Cheers

Sharkie - it's holiday season . No GPS needed . There will be plenty of boats you can use as reference points to have a drop or a troll scattered from the Seaway south to Tweed . Have a look around about the five mile seaward area . For macks just cruise south to Mermaid ( roughly seaward of the Casino at Broadbeach and half a mile out ) . You will see the boats if it's happening . Wider again off Mermaid is the gravel . Worth a troll if quiet at other spots but a bit hit and miss . Same for macks at Palm Beach ( just South of Burleigh headland and a bit wider ) . No boats then not much action . Hope it helps .

Cheers mate
Do you know what sort of lures/methods have been landing macks lately? I think we pretty much have everything covered (chromies, lures to troll and sp's if all else fails) and i guess we'll see if we can get onto some livies on our way out.
Oh and yeah i agree with about the holiday season, didn't even click that it would be busy as lol.

It's your choice really . Around here for spots it's mainly floatlining cut or whole pillies and spinning with lasers etc. at the same time . For blues it's mainly livies floated or slow trolled and dead baits rigged for trolling . Lures catch less blues than livies in my experience here . Also have a look at local guru Heath's website in tips/ techniques here .........http://www.gcfishing.com/

Re: Fishing at Tugun Desal?
Went down there for a try and little to my knowledge the Desal Plant is gone. Seaway tower said that it had been taken up to Brisbane? Not sure if anyone can confirm this? I'm sure i only read an article in novembers BnB about catching Cobia there?

Re: Fishing at Tugun Desal?
mate the plant is still there,
its there for a long long time now unfortunately,
it aint far out and is infront of bilinga surf club, maybe 1/2-1km out
as for fishing it,
yes there were a lot of cobia there, normally at the start of summer,
live yakkas are the gun bait, only thing is you would have to get them elsewhere as they can be scarse around the tower. failing that you can always try pillies
good luck,

yellahunter, not sure if it is there mate. We went to Palmy then headed on south to the Tweed Bar. Fished the 9 Mile reef and cam back via the 24's and we didn't see it. I'm confused now lol. But we definately saw no sign of it and we were looking for it.

Is there anything left of the Desal plant at all that is visible? Or do you find it by GPS.

Dont forget you need a NSW fishing lic if you cross the border and fish 9 mile reef. They patrol that area heavily. My mate got a big surprise and a $200 fine.

How do they define the border? We thought it was the Tweed River?
