Where to go on holidays in February 2009?

    Hi All,

I am after some ideas on a holiday destination for a week in Feb 09.

Some particulars to keep in mind:
    • People going - Wife, 6 month old baby, friends that have 2 children under 3
    • Want to do a bit of fishing (charter, beach, rocks, etc)
    • Can fly or drive
    • has to be a resort for the kids and wives
    • In Australia or surrounding islands
    • and not Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast

    Thanks in advance

I would have thought around the whitsunday islands would be ok but February is in the middle of cyclone season which may rule that out .
Hervey Bay area may be ok . Out of the main cyclone area good fishing beach and jetty, hire and charter boats weather wise pretty comfortable. There are plenty of resorts around the area but can't actually name any.

Hervey Bay is situated approximately 300 kilometres, 3½ hours drive, north of Brisbane. Bordered by 40 kilometres of pristine beaches, Hervey Bay offers access to islands, adventure, wildlife and a beautiful safe aquatic playground for visitors to the Fraser Coast.
Hervey Bay has gained international recognition as one of the best locations to view a great variety of marine life especially the majestic humpback whales as they make their yearly migration south, through the region's calm waters, from August to November.
From Hervey Bay, guided tours to Fraser Island depart daily or self-drive packages are available with a flight or barge crossing option. Hervey Bay is also a major access point for Lady Elliot Island, first of the Islands of The Great Barrier Reef, with flights running several times a day.
Visitors to Hervey Bay can choose accommodation ranging from superbly furnished beach front apartments, self contained units, cosy bed and breakfasts, quality resorts and motels.
The waters of the Bay are protected by Fraser Island and offer visitors a perfect safe swimming environment as well as the opportunity to experience Whale Watching and a variety of water sports including kayaking, Yachting, diving, water and jet skiing, wind surfing and snorkelling. Boating and fishing enthusiasts enjoy estuary, beach, jetty, reef and game fishing.
Hervey Bay foreshore offers fourteen kilometes of shared pedestrian, wheelchair and bicycle pathways. Along the length of the foreshore are numerous areas for picnics and barbecues, as well as children's play areas, beach hire and public shower and toilet facilities. Hervey Bay is truly a family holiday destination.

I can recommend the Soliatry islands marine park @ Wooli. It's 350K south of Brisbane and pretty well meets all your needs. I'm here at the moment and the fishing has been OK, couple of nice flatties and a Jewy in the channel north of the campsite on Tuesday at LW. All caught on yabbies pumped straight from the flats.

    Hope this helps
