    Re: 22kg Snapper

    howdy crew
it was caught north of whyalla on 10th may this year.
weighed 19kg, picture hasn't been altered it just is being held out in front(i had pic emailed to me a couple days after capture)
this day there was 3 x 40lb snapper caught in spencer gulf, i hadn't heard of any for about 3 years then 3 in 1 day.
1 was way north of whyalla(the pic in start of post), reports of another also caught just north of whyalla in lowly rip at 19kg on a handline & this 1 caught at Arno Bay at 20kg. a cast of this 20kg fish will be up on wall at Hotel Arno soon for all to see.
    we also got a 37lb, 24lb & released 4 over 20lb on same day.
    this fish 20kg(44lb)

footage of the 20kg snapper, from the mayhem of a 4 way hookup.
i filmed it on digital camera, we lost 2 of these fish in a tangle, 1 boatside at approx 35lb, the other was Kev on front left side, he was 1st to hook up & never got any line back.
    mind the language.
wanna big red, come to Arno

There you go fellow fisherman and women. Looks like some are believers and some aren't. Either way unless you have actually caught one or seen one it's hard to fathom. As you can see towards the end of this post people have actually caught fish this big. More common than i thought. So make up your own mind but the evidence is certainly there. i wouldn't mind getting one that big.
    Cheers everyone and happy fishing.

    Re: 22kg Snapper

we have had some screaming bust offs on last 3 trips fishing the same drop as where the above fish came from. Nick caught this 30lb'er on sat night of long weekend, he had been bust off earlier in the evening & Nick swears the one he lost had more go than this one...sounds like the old tale of the one that got away i know. i lost 1 also earlier during the day, it was big & made it back to the bottom only to wear me through on some structure on the bottom.
was it 20kg, i don't think so but would be estimating in the good 30's.
    next trip???
    cheers

    Re: 22kg Snapper

    That is an awesome snapper!
Personally, if I thought it would survive I would release it.
Purely because I would not want to eat it, and I'm personally not a trophy hunter.
Each to their own, incredible fish!
    Cheers.
