    Question Daiwa Saltist Feedback

I am looking at purchasing a DAIWA SALTIST LEVELWIND 50 HA. I am having trouble finding any product reviews on this reel and would appreciate any feedback anyone has got on them. The only thing I have heard is that their drag is 22% better than the TYRNOS range.

    addobaz,
Do a search on this forum and you should be able to find my previous post regarding the Saltist.

20% more drag is BS. see links below.

I know the saltist page isn't for the level-wind model (i was lazy) although both have the same drag system.

have a look at weights tho, depending on what you are looking the reel for this may come into play.

    Re: Daiwa Saltist Feedback

addobaz, I recently purchased a Daiwa Saltist 30 TH and love the reel. I have it loaded with Fins 80lb braid and last Wednesday had a mammoth fight with a large Bronze Whaler that lasted nearly an hour. The drag worked a treat and it never once looked like failing. From my point of view they are a very nice reel.

    Re: Daiwa Saltist Feedback

Addobaz, my dad just bought the saltist 30 last week. He took it with him on an overnighter we went on out to the reef and for value for money it was very impressive. He got it matched to a daiwa monster mesh (daiwas equivelent of a t-curve?) and it performed really well. He boated quite a few good fish (snapper to 12lb) and the when you look at the size and weight of the setup I think the saltist is definately worth a look. Unfortunately the reel didn't have a level wind so I can't really give you any info there, hope this is some help.

    Re: Daiwa Saltist Feedback

my anti-reverse just shat itself last night (well I only noticed it last night) after some big battles on the weekend.
Will be taking it back to the shop ASAP and will keep you all posted, hopefully a one off!
Will see how good the warranty is though.

    Re: Daiwa Saltist Feedback

I have had one for the last 3 years I have caught quite a few fish with including a 100kg Marlin. It's great reel for bottom bashing, nice and light to hold all day. I have had trouble with the leaver to throw it in and out of gear though and this had to be replaced at a cost of $130 dollars. Has been right from then on though.
