Re: new rod to stop big jacks? what should i get

    I use a T-curve Bass 631 BC 6'3" 7-20g 3-5kg and a chronarch 100BSV when chasing jacks.... its one really solid rod.

Not enough time in the day, to many spots to fish!

nugg u have ur finesse gear for bream, if ur looking for a heavier rod look at the t,curve. yes u camn land them on light stuff but nomatter what anyone says if u want to target jack uneed the gear to stop them (unless ur catching them on sand flats) its depending on the structure u fish and if its bad country and ur doing more livebaiting u do need a broomstick rod.
any serious jack fisherman will tell u that u need much more then a 6kg rod to succesfully target jack.

mate just my 2 cents but id love to see those bream stick around some of the places in tweed. some guys cant land em on 15kh sticks and torium 16's.
i have landed em light stuff but most of the time its just luckey.
like i said its my opinion but i do know for a fact that the structure we fish in tweed needs alot more then a 6kg rod to land the fish there.

Nugg, if really depends if your going to be a big jack specialist or just an allrounder, personally id rather catch the huge fish like unit used to get and you need more than a 6kg rod to consistently produce those results IMO.
Nathan, let me know when those big jacks start to show up, hows the new boat going?

Sorry BN, not having a go at U, but if your only going to catch the over 60cm ones, your right, but that's getting pretty specialised ( and you'd be reef fishing).
Maybe you, me, Troy, and Smallunit can fish some of your spots in the Tweed sometime, that'd be tops.

Re: new rod to stop big jacks? what should i get

hey nugg, I think you should clarify 'big jacks'. Some of us are thinking about reef jacks, where a heavy rod is required, but those of us whove read your posts are assuming that youll be fishing the rivers.

Breamnut, are you sure your not getting mixed up with line wieght? Ive run 8-14kg braid on a 2-4/4-8 kg rod.....anyway, I did agree with your comments on small tides in the MG thread, even if nobody else did. I prefer less flow.

    cheers

Re: new rod to stop big jacks? what should i get

andrew no need to worry about having a go at me this is a public forum we are both just expressing ours way of approching the situation and this was mine.
its all depending on were he is fishing and my way of fishing for jack is pritty much not giving them an inch of line and skull dragging them out of structure and a rod under 8kg will not do this in the area that i fish.
though when it comes to a place like the gold coast pontoons i land all the fish on a 2000 daiwa sol and a 2-5kilo rod but the jack around the pilons and rock walls generally need something heavier.
the guys using 50lb braid on those toriums were not fishing outside and the sugermill in tweed regually produces jack over 70cm for the people luckey enough to land them (usually on 80lb handlines)
a big jack for me is over 50cm but my style of fishing requires alot heavier then 6kg

You sure do a lot of styles of fishing. I see youve been offshore a bit too. Good luck to you. You have way too much time on your hands, so live it up before you get married mate.
