usually over $500 not the best of the best but gear that wont fail me
Hi,
Set this up caus of the other thread
How much do you spend on your average setup (reel, rod and line)
usually over $500 not the best of the best but gear that wont fail me
around 800 - 1000 for me, (400 - 500 each the rod and reel)(40 - 50 dollar braid)
the gear never fails and you dont really wont to upgrade to any other gear, so you dont have to buy other gear for a while
around the $500 mark, but if she asks $150 safe as .
ron
reels screamin aboard Hyper- Active
around the 200-250 mark for rod reel, im lucky i get a pretty good price on my gear. but yer only run fireline or platypuss braid on my reels if only they would make it smaller then 15lb.

400-600 for me. Quality gear and tackle doesn't often fail.
After all.. it is what is connected between you and the fish!!
It depends sometimes $200.00 for snapper outfits or $1000.00 for jigging outfit or $2000.00 for game fishing but i will only pay it once as i look after it .
quote of the day ( guns don`t kill people fathers with pretty daughters do ) !!
Depending on what tackle ( fly is off the scale )
But generally $600-$700 for a bream , bass or Barra set up

I am very happy with the gear I have and use regularly, each setup would be between 150 and 300max. I have had 400 rods and reels before but to be honest they don't compare with what i currently enjoy to use.
Quality of mid range gear has leaped ahead in the last 5 years especially in the rods department. I used to build a lof of my rods to get what i was wanting but these days there are usually a selection of good rods in an affordable price range.
Reels however......well there is a lot of glitzed up shit on the market being sold as good gear.......buyer beware with reels i believe.
More than anything tho, you do not need a ferrari to get to the shops with, why do you need a thousand dollar reel for bream?
Jack.
Jack what are some of your best reels your using ?
id have to say that the quality of rods both graphite and glass have improved alot, and you can pick up a mid of the range road for a decent price.

Jack ...... I have to agree with your comments about rods ....... They have come along in leaps & bounds - I use $200-$250 rods for bream ( because I have a bad habit of breaking bream rods ) .... but I'm happy with them! Now having said that I had a session using my mates Loomis IMX SR841 over the weekend! ..... Without a doubt this rod was a gem to use!!!!! It easily outcast my T Curves & Nitro with ease ..... specially when using light 1/32nd jig heads Is this worth $550 .......... For sure! ( but I'll import it for $300 )
On the reel side of things ( $1000 bream reels) I guess you are referring to an Exist .... @ $900ish or Stella @ $650ish Reels like these are not required for general bream fishing ....... They are specialist reels where you are using 2 & 4lb leaders with 2 & 4lb mainlines ......... Casting lures / plastics of 1 & 2 grams ...... in often gin clear waters! Drags need to be precise as a surge of a fish could easily pop line or leader ( if there is even a slight stutter) ....... Then its bye bye fishy & possibly a $20-30 lure! - - - With this scenario , only 2 out of my 5 bream outfits will handle this breaming situation ( Certate / T Curve & Stella / Nitro combos) ......... So when people say its a w_nk , they clearly have no idea what is required to successfully target bream in these conditions Not necessarily $1000 reels but $400-$600 for sure!
Cheers

$1000 - 2000 whenever i buy a rod i want the best of its type and dont mind spending that bit extra if its gonna last the years and hours out there on the water.
Use to be 1-200,but now days 601-800.Buy right first time and you dont have to spend again.....Very good point you raised Nagg about combos for certain conditions.
A very good question Jack, but people do buy Ferraris to drive to the shop and they do buy (almost) $1000 reels to catch Brim with. Perhaps it's because they can, and they want to. I recently bought a Magabass Rod with a Daiwa Branzino. With line, that combo was about $1800. I guess I didn't need it, but I wanted it and I enjoy it. I will use it for all the species I fish for as it will handle quite a range of line classes. I recently watched my lady pick out her first outfits for Bass fishing. She's very new to the game. She chose a $1500 Threadline combo and an $850 Baitcast reel (She's borrowed one of my Egrells until she finds a rod with suitable bling for the Ito). Why? for the same reason that she would pay $700 for a handbag or $500 for shoes. She liked them and wanted them, and thought the bling factor of the Daiwa Emeraldas and Ito were worth the investment. All she wanted to know was if they were good quality. The reason I just paid way too much for the rod below is pure bling factor and the fact that I've never seen a baitcaster rated to 100lb line before. (It's for my trip to New Guinea) Unfortunately, Fish Head Tackle know of my weakness, and order in bling rods because they know I'll buy them.
