Thread: The Cost of Fishing

    Re: The Cost of Fishing

up to 400 bucks for me for a big surf outfit. It depends though, I tend to go for the quality stuff when i use the outfit to the max, and lesser quality if it spends more time in the garage.

    cheers

    Re: The Cost of Fishing

To me the rods & reels are the cheap part.

I can take 4 rods & reels at approximately $5k yet on any given day have between $15-$30k of lures on board, sometimes more.

I'm sure there's more who do the same or worse

2manylures are you saying you take between $15-$30k of lures out with you on an outing

what type of lures do you have and how many of them to add up to $15k-$30k ?

And where do you store that many lures ?

Yes, you only need 2000 lures averaging $15 a pop for $30k.

    Got a pretty good range of just about everything, no cheap crap though. {pet hate}

All the gear I use has it's own room along with collectables. The spares live in a shed.

Please bear in mind I've been using & buying lures for many, many yrs & it doesn't take much for them to add up.

Yeah ! i use a bunch of lures too my favorite is a whiting fillet, i also use mullet fillets, blood worms, grinner, garfish, and a few more, i"d probably have $4 or $5 dollars worth in the freezer right now.
    love fishin' Jimbo.
P.S. got a box of hooks and sinkers too and a couple of slugs just in case.

Between 1 grand and $1500 on average, but I only have 5 good setups. I'm sure there are guys around that have dozens of cheap outfits lying around that would end up costing the same overall?? and in the end they still have crap? I like to buy the best I can and get the most out of those few outfits.

    Re: The Cost of Fishing

my bream rods/reels (combos) were $200-$300 but the next time i get a bream rod i will spend around $500 . My shark rod was 250 and the reel im getting for that is 500 bucks (TLD50) . the more you spend the longer it lasts and if i had the money to buy the best gear i would , and i would still tell my missus i only spent 100 bucks .

    cheers nico

    Re: The Cost of Fishing

I honestly don't see what money has to do with anything.

We all spend on what we individually enjoy & can afford. I enjoy lures, big deal, so what!
    Others enjoy boats, GOOD.
Some enjoy spending there hard earned cash on drinking piss, GOOD ON EM!

If it's what you love doing, just do it and forget about money, peer group pressure & moreso bullsh** bloody advertising that's directed at taking every cent they can get.

ENJOY YOUR CHOSEN HOBBY, PASTIME or PASSION.............SIMPLE

2manylures that sure is a lot of lures brother

i`d be lucky if i had 3-4 grands worth and thats including all my moldcraft and pakula`s for marlin right through to my bass lures but i have heaps more $$$$$ in rods and reels.

So i make up for it with my stella`s saltiga`s tiagra`s loomis and miller rods etc etc etc etc etc wich i have collected over the years .

A mans gotta have his toys right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course he does! AND it doesn't have to be fishing tackle.

I've probably invested $1/2m in lures, so what, some have garages full of exotic cars with each car worth more than all my gear, there choice & bloody good on them.

My whole point is do what you like, spend your cash on what you're comfortable with & bloody well enjoy & why the hell should we feel obligated to keep up with the JONES'?

    Beyond me!

YEP serious, SAFER THAN HOUSES, they're the only things ex-bloody wives haven't wanted. Done two houses, cars, furniture and all the goodies & each time only left with my fishing tackle.

Turned out to be a good investment. Just as well the new sheila doesn't like fishing as well.

However unless we aren't attracted to women then we all fall for the old trap at some point, some of us on a more regular basis.

Well if that's the case I promise myself to never ever sit down and work out my total spend ...no way would it compete with yours though!! Some people build houses out of bottles, you could build a shed out of lures

    cheers fnq
