Does anyone have any suggestions on some good spots to take the kids land based fishing around the Cairns area, willing to travel 45mins north or south, prefer salt water as the kids have really only fished fresh all their lives out west. If you don't want to put your suggestion here on the forum, feel free to PM me, all info given will be greatly appreciated.

Palm Cove jetty, Cairns Jetty (around the back of the pier past the "lagoon")has a section where fishing is allowed. You probably wo'nt get much although some large fish are caught, but good fun for the kids.
Portsmith boat ramp is also popular.
