I must admit when my dad first started heading north and catching these magnificent fish I was envious but didn't try too hard for a seat in the truck.. Well luckily my dad didn't take too long to catch IBD and talked me into taking a Friday and Monday off work and fly up to Proserpine during one of his pilgrimages for some Barra fishing!!
We headed out about 5pm for a fish at his favorite spot amongst the sticks. About 10mins after we arrived I saw my first Barra! I didn't hook it but if I had left my lure he was chasing beside the boat for 2 more seconds I may not have only seen his big bronze flank disappearing back into the water!! Well thats all it took for me
I was shaking and in my haste to get the lure back out there threw an absolute shocker of a cast and had to fix a dam good birds nest too lol. About 10 mins latter I hookup and nearly get pulled into the drink not expecting the weight behind the strike!! After a short but intense battle I had a beautiful little 85cm barra in the boat
Over the 4 day fishing I was lucky enough to Land 8 Barramundi, loose at least 8 barra classic lures and have to re-rig a LOT of hooks!!!! This trip made me release why you need at least 4 lures of each colour in your bag!!! lol. 4 of my fish were over the mtr mark, biggest was 107 pictured in my Avatar.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to pull myself away from work, the misses, the pup and the new house since this trip, but I can say I am itching to get back up there and tangle with some more of these monsters!! Perhaps using Slick rigs for something different next time
Cheers and good Barra fishing to you all
