    GAWB Press release

    LAKE AWOONGA ACCESS RESTRICTIONS
Recent rains in the region have produced some good inflows into Lake Awoonga in
the last few days and it is anticipated that overnight inflows will see the level rise to
around 34m AHD. This water level has not been seen in the dam since November
    2005.
Our experience with rapid inflows indicates that resulting debris including branches
and floating weed beds will remain in the water for some time. GAWB staff have
confirmed that there is presently a large amount of debris in the water.
Due to the increase in submerged hazards and in the interests of public safety, it is
recommended that for the time being, recreational users not access the waters of Lake
Awoonga. Access from Boynedale Bush Camp area is temporarily closed because of
rapid movement of water in the Boyne River.
Recreation facilities on the lakeshore including picnic areas, playgrounds and
barbecues etc are still open to the public.
The levels of Lake Awoonga as at 3.10pm on 14 February 2008 were 33.25m AHD
which is 56%. Water levels one month ago were 32.49%. For regular updates to our
water level graph, visit our website at www.gawb.qld.gov.au.

Hmmph! Glad the port authorities don't close our coastal waterways up for the same reason, we get a lot of it and we have sharks, stingers, tidal flows and what can be big distances to dry land.

Sounds to me like land lubbin (sp) authorities weilding their fairy wand a dumbed down once again.

Thanks thats good, my mistake andmany others also I suspect, thought we had reached another low, lot's of them around these days,
Why not somewhere a 'please all who still choose to use this waterway do so with extra care and due regard for the conditions for the duration mentioned above".

Worded that way it was, for a reason or just a telling oversight, we wouldn't see a release worded like this anywhere along our coastal waterways.

    cheers fnq
