    Hi

Just looking at some commercial kits on the internet

    http://www.caughtinflight.com.au/

    http://www.fishingkites.com/

    http://www.fishingkites.co.nz/

seems like a great way of getting the bait out far into the deep sea

Have heard of people using a car tube and drifting there long lines out to sea.

Also heard of guys making remote controlled scaled down model boats that take lines out far in sea or dangerous water where large sharks are around 90mile beach.

Just curious if anyone in the forum cares to share their experience

    cheers

Kite fishing was the "NEW" thing here in about (I think) the early 80's, it does have some small positives, but overall, it just did not take off (not the kites) saw a bit of an interest but just died out, still used in the good old US of A though I think.

its funny as i had a discussion about this topic only last week here at work,,,,

there was a show on tele recently,,, (getaway or something similar) that dedicated 15-20 minutes of Kite Fishing in California,,,

until then ,, i had heard of it,,, but never actually witnessed it up close,,,,

it works,,,,,,,, well it did for the show anyway

i recalled my time in Sydney,,, when every now and then you could see a bloke standing on some of the lower shelves of the headlands in botany bay,,,, flying a kite

i use to think he was mad,,,,, now i think he was fishing

    choppa
    can it get any better??????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgG_TxEPaQE

funny how often the two get confused.

The kite fishing everyone has been describing is the style that is usually adopted for landbased anglers (i'm assuming thats what you mean by offshore). i have also heard of blokes in the US using kites and helium filled baloons to 'skip' rigged flyingfish for big tuna and the likes when trolling a spread.

    Hi guys,
This is my post to a similar discussion going on in the U.S. at sportfisherman.com, it's a forum similar to this with alot of captains as members who post some useful knowledge. It's a good thread you guys should check out. It's located in the wahoonbox forum. Hope this helps.

    on the kite!!!!
I've been addicted to kite fishing for ten years. To me the best thing about the kite and the helium is you catch fish you otherwise would not even see. I also think my customers get a thrill out of the spectacular bites you get. As for chunkin while flying a kite, it as well as freelining live baits is how I fish. I have seen it catch just about everything from black marlin to tarpon. I use the stunned bait chum as well, I just pop an eyeball out to make him spin in circles on the surface(give 'em a spinner). I have always been partial to bob lewis kites and am not familiar with this foil thing. I'm going to check it out though. With the clips aftco sells a good one(I would not buy one of their kites though, they suck) and I use ceramic guides, snap swivel, action rings, and paper clip sounds like a good idea to me. I wonder if you guys have ever tried squid? We caught COWS on the sqid both alive and dead. Tie a bimini or a braid about 3' of double line, cut the bottom of thedouble so they are of even length, match hook size to squid size, one j hook and one circle, j in the head and circle in the mantle so it hangs horizontal and hold on. Just my two cents.

    Hi

FInal bought my kit kit on Sunday afternoon , played around with the kite in the Park yesterday and its a breeze to fly " no hands required " so stable in light and heavy winds.

Next week we have some Northerly winds coming down to Victorian waters, my first chance to test the kite setup out in the bay.

    http://www.weather.com.au/vic/melbourne

Just making a heavy duty rod holder to anchor into the sand in a few directions this is to hold the kite release rod. Nothing worse than when your surf fishing with two rods and one of the surf rods falls over while being held in the surf rod holder.

Need to buy two ,1.8 to 2 meter full bouble roller bearing overhead game rods 30 to 45kgs and overhead game reel that i will spool up approximately 600 to 800 meters of 100lb braided line for the kite release. The other rod will be for the BIG fish i'm hoping to catch .

Also will try it out with my 15ft surf rods . Whos ever tryed casting 100meter plus pass the breakers with a decant size sinker and not to mention the bait ring. After 10 casts ones arms wanna just drop off LOL . with the kite setup, sit back in a banana chair have a nice cold drink and get a suntan rather than having you waiters on and being ditched by a big unsuspecting wave topple you over LOL done that a few times. Wait for the big fish to hookup.

Have plans to use the kites on lakes for trout fishing in deeper waters , fly the kite bait out with very light fishing line and a split shot. Also get the lures out into deeper waters . I reckon i'm count my trout before they hatch kidding.

Will post a few pictures of my first catch and a video clip.

    cheers

    Hi

Has anyone got a good second alvey fishing reel 655BC for sale ????Alvey Fishing Reel - 655BCThis Alvey Reel 655BC is one that we highly recommend using when Kite Fishing. It is a light weight design and is user friendly with a star drag which controls the deployment of the kite.

    hi

thanks oldboot , i have been surfing the net on ebay for Alvery snapper fishing reels. Here is one that i am after the rest are old units wouldn't suit my application.

This one has already had 6 bidds, it is sitting on $73-oo and 1 day and 7 hours left on th auction of the item. I can see this Alvery going close to $100. I can pick them up for $150 new and thats not even shopping around for a better price.

So buying something second hand is really a hit and miss situation, ie condition of the item , one can not view the item in perosn so one doesn't reely know how good the item is before buying it and departing with your hard earned cash.

It reely has to be a good price , if i'm to buy second hand and i would perefer to have some confidance with a return policy if the itme is not upto scratch if i can't veiw it.

Will keep a close eye on ebay for a few days and see what else comes up otherwise it will have to be a new one looks like it

    reely = really

    cheers
