when at moreton we hang a handheld camping fluro light overboard but not in the water an it attracts heaps of baitfish and also squid.
i watched a nat geo doco a couple of years ago where some people wer testing the effects of different coloured light on large japanese squid.
i cant remember the whole doco very well but do remember a red light really made them aggressive, to the point that they wer attacking the scuba divers along with the light and camera (and these wer big squid, 6ft approx) maybe a bit of research could yeild the data these guys collected and their results

Have found that a standard white light tends to attract slimies and squid here in Tassie.Interesting re the red light on squid.May give it a crack as we get alot of arrow squid here in Tas. over the warmer months.
