we are hoping to get out there and have a crack at them this weekend... going with a mate that knows what he's doing so we should get a few...

mate, it doesnt sound like he knows what he's doing if he takes you red fishing this weekend.
The reef closures (for all coral reef fin fish)start friday at midnight and go for around 9 days.

You will have to target other species ie macs,fingermarks ,barra etc.
