Sorting through some old photo albums last night & came across one of an old pro fishing mate. Looked but couldn't find the photo that started me on chasing barra years ago. It was taken in what is now Shoalwater Bay training area sometime in the 1950's. Shows a tree wired to 2 others with a nights catch of barra hung from it. About 15 fish. Not unusual except that the ends were 6feet 0ff the ground judging by the height of my mate & the weight was such that middle of the pole sagged so much that the tails of the middle fish were less than two feet off the ground. That means they must have been close to 1.5 metres each

That was one nights catch. Net caught but it was enough to get me started chasing barra. Never did get into that country as the army got there first.

Excuse the rambling but would like to hear what started others chasing that one special fish Bill
