G'day all,
just after a general idea of how long people's fishing has been haulted due to weed - especially in spots like fraser and parts of hervey bay. how many years ago was your first encounter with it? cheers.

Or Agnes Water! LOL I'm still laughin'
We've been to Fraser in September for the last five years and every year it has played havoc with our plans.

"Drugs were around when I was a kid, just not as bad as it is now" - We already have government ads answering this question
it started just after those french barstards started letting of some nuks in our back yard
It seems to help my fishing.......but Im sure its all an illusion.
Forever it seems. 1987 was a bad year on Fraser. Huge amounts of weed were blown onto the beach and then covered with wind-blown sand. Many 4WD's (including ours) were travelling serenely along the beach when all of a sudden they were up to the axles in rotten, stinking weed. It wasn't the best trip ever, that's for sure
Cheers Freeeedom
That must've been horrendous Freeeedom. it does seem to be worse in some years than others, though lately it seems to have hung around with consistency. an old saltie in hervey bay reckons it's because of the drought, and that until four years ago, he had never seen it so bad in that area. anyway here's hoping this season treats us all a little more kindly.

First struck weed at Bribie in 1964. It was called Blanket weed then and very noxious. Any contact with the eyes played havoc for days.
That's if your weed is the same
It may have been around even before that.
There have been all sorts of reasons as to what causes it:
Drought, Dredging canals, Pine forests, the list goes on.
Have fun Haji-Baba.
I'd say a majority of it is from increased nutrient in the bay system (ie fertilisers running off farms and into the bay).
