Poor bastard. Nearly happened to me a few times though.
It can happen easy alright. Have personally pulled out a couple that would have shared the same fate. Thats why its best to learn the art or beach driving in a clapped out old cruiser.

You have to feel for the guy, i seen a jeep swamped at a creek crossing up north, all the family sitting on the side of the creek, the father trying to secure with a snatch strap to stop it floating away down the creek.
Not good at all ......
