Abercrombie River
What kind of fish can you catch and it is true that there are snakes all over the river bank?

Re: Abercrombie River
G"day
The Abercrombie is just a trickle at the moment and full of carp, there was a good supply of golden perch and macquarie perch at one time but the drought has had a lasting nasty effect, this is only speaking from wyangala dams point of view,it could be still ok further up the river.?
As for the snakes there as bad there as anywhere but i would not say the place is overun with them but if you head up there take a musket as there are always plenty of goats.

Drove over Boomaroo Ford two year back and the river had totally stoped flowing, pretty depressing really.

Hi fishaholic.
If you access the abercrombie from the Tuena/Trunky road you will still find some good water but be prepared to catch only carp. In its prime and at certain times the river fishes well for trout. The best time to target these is from the opening of the season up untill xmas by which time the trout will have mostly moved on to Wyangla Dam. Catfish are another species easily caught but I have a feeling the carp are responsible for the drop in numbers because catfish build a nest of small stones on the river bed and carp graze the bed and must disturb the nests. Golden and Silver Perch and the odd Cod are a likelyhood but a rise in water levels is needed to bring them up from Wyangla.
As for snakes that's part and parcel of river fishing and they are no more worse than at other rivers. You are most likely to encounter blacks and browns, blacks are no worry but be careful if you come across a brown they can be cranky.
