    classic aussie rod and reel

    Gidday,

I'm a published writer who is writing a book that has a large fishing component. My hero (aged 13) is given a rod and reel by a much older man. I wanted to know what would be an appropriate outfit. A friend suggested the rod could be a solid glass Jarvis Walker (or is it Slazenger) with agate runners. I really like the sound of this. But what about a reel of similar vintage. I was thinking of an Alvey as they're an iconic Aussie reel but could somebody give me a particular model.

Also I'm having some fun with the names of lures. What are some of the crazier names of lures out there?

    many thanks

    Phillip

Depending on the year Phillip, a classis Aussie reel in the freshwater was a Crouch. This reel was difficult to cast, but once mastered, they were considered the pinnacle. Early threadline reels of the era were Mitchell (French) Roddy and Daiwa (Japanese).
Early lures could be Super Dupers, Wonder Wobblers, or Heddon Tigers
