PUTTING BRAID ON REEL
HI ALL JUST QUESTION ABOUT BRAID I'VE HEARD THAT WITH NYLON THAT YOU SHOULD PUT IT IN WATER BEFORE YOU PUT IT ON THE REEL IS THIS THE SAME WITH BRAID OR DOESN'T IT MATTER WITH EITHER LINES

It helps lubricate the line through the guides when your reeling in the line. Apart from that, no other benefit.

Hi Gary...I have several reels spooled up with braid....I always use a nylon backing and make sure the braid is wound on tight....otherwise the braid will dig in on itself making for a very rough drag. [smiley=oops.gif]...Have never used the water theory but hey it may help.

Wind it straight on Gary. Put it on TIGHT. I get a mate to hold the spool and apply tension - you should get a very sore winding hand - that's when you know it's on tight enough.

thx guys the hand was very tired after i spooled the 2 abus
i didn't get as much super braid on the reels as i thought i would though

The idea of wetting lines before spooling them goes back to the days of linnen lines when this was a mast, not needed with modern mono or braid.
