It's fully machined from solid aluminum then anodized for saltwater use. The drag and bearings are fully sealed for a long life of big fish catching. It ain't cheap, but nothing this cool ever is. Its appears that a fly reel and a Big BTR were left together in a tackle box and had a baby.
Looks like it should come with a matching set of gold earings?

Check out the Charlton 8600 B Offshore Fly Reel. US$1995

If you really want to go up market, there's the Titanium version. You'll never have to worry about corrosion. I've never seen a price for this reel. If you have to ask you probably can't afford it.

Sadly the new owners of Charlton, 3M(makers of Post-It-Notes amongst other things)/Scientific Angler are discontinuing the current model.

Rush out and buy a set of these amazing reels. They are sure to become collectors items and increase in value. Like the Fin-nor Wedding Cake and Seamaster fly reels.

P.S. Van Staal Titanium Pliers are great and a steal at US$229.

No bloody fish is worth that much, they'd need gold nuggets in there mouths, to chase fish with that sorta gear.

    Re: $1,899.00 #spinning reel

And here a vs400 that exploded after the pinion sheared under strain. This is reportedly a common fault and the reel was withdrawn early this year. The VS300 and below are still available.

    Re: $1,899.00 #spinning reel

I see the Japanese Jigger went with the gold reel seat option, rather than the earings. Excellent choice since the earings would have clashed with his dog tags.

Pretty serious looking rod, do you know if it was made by folding a single sheet of fibreglass 1000 times?

And what's with the two watches? ??? He wasn't fishing on the NSW / Qld border, was he?
