Tangalooma and the Cape 5/11/2017

Early in the week we decided to go offshore on Sunday but after some mates telling me about the raging current offshore, we decided to go for a plan B with a trip over to Tangalooma on Saturday night and a trip around the top of Moreton if the weather was looking ok.

We left Manly for Tangalooma after dinner Saturday night and were hunting around the wharf for livebait when we noticed some surface activity and a quick throw of a slug resulted in some nice Trevally for a bit of light action fun. No luck on the livebait which was unusual so we anchored up and set out some rods, poured some rums and after a while had a couple of nice pan size Snaps onboard. It was getting pretty late by then so decided to hit the sack for an early start.

Next morning up a 4.30 am and looking for bait again and with no luck headed up to the beacons to see if there was much activity. Turned out to be crowded and quiet so we pushed up to the cape and had a good run around Combie Point and out to North West rocks, joining a few boats already anchored up.

The current was fair raging at about 3-4 knots which made fishing quite hard but we had a few hits but not much else. A floating Pillie got a big hit and soon after we started to pull in the School Mackeral of a fairly good size. We lost a few to sharks and had a few bust offs and as the current slowed we picked up a nice Sweetlip.

The tide change slowed things down and with the outgoing tide picking up we decided to get going for a good flat run back to Manly.

Home, boat washed and fish filleted by 2 - asleep on the couch by 2.15!
