Cape York trippin 2021 parks info
Howd'y folks,
Just got this back from Govt.
Hi Phill,
Rosie is correct about a wet season closure in place from 1 December 2020 to 31 July 2021. This year the park will be closing slightly earlier, but this is just being sorted out now.
As for booking next year Cape Melville National Park (CYPAL) has a 1 month booking horizon, this means you can only book 1 month in advance. Yes the opening date of 1 August is just a guide and is heavily dictated by how the wet season unfolds.
I’m not sure if you are local Phill, but I think the best thing to do would be keep an eye on the wet season in June because from 1 July you will be able to make your camping booking. Having said that you are most welcome to contact us in June to see how things are tracking as we’ll be able to provide you the local conditions – our team email is visitormgtnorthern@des.qld.gov.au Or you are welcome to contact the ranger base who manage this area on (07) 4069 5777.
I hope this is helpful.
Many thanks
Beck
Thought this may help some people here.............. including me ;D;D8-)

Does this mean the pro crabbers can't get in early like they do and chew up the track with their 35" tyres and get all the crabs before any one else can get in.
Re: Cape York trippin 2021 parks info
Update..... due to " circumstances" ::) my dates have changed.
Now locked in 14th May and a small convoy. Yes, I know it is early in the season and we understand the issue with late season weather events, so we are able to adjust.
Not going to remote areas either. This is purely a PDR to Weipa, up to Seisia and back with stops at the usual places and even a couple of days in Cooktown on the return trip.
The tinnie has been prepared, 4 x 4 ready and plans A, B & C locked in.. :)

Yeah it’s green up here at the moment and road closures at the moment but that sorts itself quick , they are expecting a big season up this way this year . Hopefully all will be good when you get up . Matthttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6ef7a20de7.jpg

So, the PDR is open and it's chaos. I was sent dash-cam video over some ###kwit overtaking a 4 x 4 on the dirt and dust and hitting another 4 x 4 head on. Well, not head on, but clipped the front 1/4. Both cars still driveable, but seriously... people wait and plan for months to get to the Cape and when it's open, they want to get there in 5 minutes. :(
A lot of the " other " tracks are still not quite driveable with most rivers still up. Have photos of ferrets getting washed off crossings.:o I have nuffin.::)
Anyhoo........... I depart Brisvegas in 3 sleeps and should be in Weipa by Monday 17th. Taking it easy with plenty of stops. ;D8-);D
cheers LP
