Brisbane River Flatty and Sounder Pics
Headed out Saturday arvo looking for a jew in the river. Wind was up and a bit uncomfortable but was able to get in close to the wharfs and stay out of it.
Plenty of bait, mullet, herring, gar and one nice size arrow squid. Also plenty of weed.....
Started fishing around 5:00pm, sent the squid down straight away with hopes, but it was just picked at by smaller fish until a ray took the remaining tube... Managed a shovel nose just before 10pm....
Stuck to it even though I couldn't find any fish on the sounder. As i was packing up around 2am, started winding one of the lines in and had some extra weight, was thinking possibly a crab had grabbed the little mullet but was slightly suprised when a 73m flatty came up, no fight at all....

Also attached a few screen shots from the past week or two from the river. All of these shows except the second one resulted in fish caught.

Hi Copie,
I run a dragonfly 4Pro.
Not sure if it is just my sounder but using it in the river can be a challenge. Constantly changing sensitivity settings depending on the amount of run.
The shots above with no noise in the pictures were around the change of the tide and the ones with noise are when the water was running.

Again Jackson great pics and thanks for posting them. What fishing rig are you using in the river for those Jew and threades.

Re: Brisbane River Flatty and Sounder Pics
Hi Copie,
Typically I run a ball sinker around a size 6 (pending on current) to a swivel, then about 0.6m of 40-60lb leader to either a single hook or snelled hooks.
Single hook I use range from 3/0 circle to 8/0 octupus depending on the size of the bait.
Snelled hooks I use for larger live baits like big mullet, gar and pike.
Main line is around 30-40lb braid.

Thanks again Jackson very helpful I fish the bay a lot and at times outside but I am now tempted to give the river a go would love to hook up on a good size threadfin.

As the temperature starts to get warmer they should start to come on the chew better, that will be the best time to target them.
