In Shimanos new catalogue, it says the tld range have the new arb bearings. Have the tld`s that are discounted got the old bearings or the new ones? They look identical, don`t they?

ARB bearings have a much darker look to them than a normal bearing,if the reel your looking at has ARB's fited,it will say it somewhere on the box.

I'd like to know the same ...

I bought a tld 25 not long ago and just noticed that the new ones have the ARB bearings ... Is there much of a difference? or are the older tld bearings similar?

I didn`t put that very well. What I meant to ask is.... Is the
new model, which looks the same as the older model ,
selling at the discounted rate also?

Yes they are the new ones. My brother just bought a TLD 20 at the new improved price and it definitely has the ARB's. I don't know how much better they are as I have only replaced one bearing in my TLD 25 since the early ninetees.

I posted a report on here a while ago about this subject, ive been using the new bearings since the first lot came into the country. Ive experimented with vertually every after market bearing there is for tlds and always ended up going back to shimanos bearings. As many of you might know i used these reels commercially and flogged the hell out of them so i know what works. The new bearings are darker and seem to have a nickle type coating ive found them longer lasting then any other bearing and a considerable bit faster at rolling, i currently have 6 tlds all have the new bearings and none have failed. Dont get me wrong i expect them to eventually but they deffently are superior to any others. For anyone who uses stainless after market ones ive had them sieze up in sometimes as little as weeks even though they are sealed and look good. Still i swear by TLDs and the new bearings make them even better!...foxy

Foxy
Any idea of the cost of the new bearings? My freespool is not as smooth as it should be so I may look at a new set before the next stripdown. Then again the way the prices are dropping maybe I should get a new reel.

Cheers Neil

Horse -About $18.50, but unless you have serious problems just replace the bearing and give it a general clean up and lube. The biggest trap when pulling them down is the two really small screws on the opposite side to the main screws which have to be undone. And the brass looking nut shaped piece under the drag lever which cant be turned at all, if you try turning it you damage the outer casing, its atrap to the unweary...foxy

Thanks Foxy
I pulled my TLD down on a trip away once and I was lucky to get it back together. I think I will try the minor maintenance first.

Where are you getting them at $185.00. Best I've got in Gladstone or Rocky is $220.00.
I'm still decided between the 20 or the 30 2speed.

I highly doubt it would be a 2 speed for that money. Can anyone say what the 2 speeds are going for. I got a quote the other day of $550. Can I get better than this?

G'day Corry, that's what campbels would charge for a 30 2 speed delivered to your door, the 20 would be 'round $510.

havent priced the two speeds cory, only the single speed 20. the two speed is by far a better reel.
