I have 2 x TLD 20's both spooled with 30 pound braid on a mono backing. I have tried to set the drag to 10 pound but for some reason am only able to achieve 9 pound on either reel.
I back the lever off to free spool position and then adjust the preset. bring the lever back to the strick position and all I have been able to ghet is 9 Pound the slips. I thought I should be able to achieve more than this on one of these reels. ???

hrmm.. does seam a little strange. but then again TLD20's are designed with 20 POUND line in mind.. but plenty of guys use 50lb braid on them so i assume there maximum strike drag should be more.. if thats as far as it goes why not fish on strike drag and once you into a fish bump it up just on the botton and you will get your extra.

Thanks jeffo. Thats what i thought I may have to do but just thought that 12 to 14 woulod probably be the limit not 9. just seems light for a real of this callibre.

The instruction manual for a TLD 20 states:
LBS/YDS
20 lb-700YDS, 30lb-450yds, 40lb-330yds
Based on that one would assume that it should be capable of achieving about 13-14lbs of drag.

From what i have been told the TLD 20 and 25 are the same gear system and drag. I have used nearly 7kg on my 25 so the 20 should be closer to that

Hi Y,
I have a fairly new TLD 20 and set the drag to about 7kg, thats 15 lb, I also have 30lb fireline on it and it still had some drag left to go.
Not sure how everyone else sets or measures theres , but since I havn't got scales, I tied the line to a 10 litre plastic bucket handle and lifting it using the rod, I put water in there and adjusted the drag until it would not start slipping until I got just over 7 litres in there.
One litre of water weighing one kilo. Yours sound sus, maybe they left a washer out or something? ???
