Spooling Reels

Hi,

I want to spool my okuma avenger and okuma epix both with 4pound fireline. I have two 125 yard spools of 4 pound fireline. The avenger and epix both say it can hold 120 yards of 4 pound line. What i am unsure of is would i still need to put down backing line before the fireline or can i spool the reel only with fireline and then would it fill the entire spool up to the lip for better casting etc.

any help would be great.

Put the fireline on the reel and see if it fills it or not.

If it doesn't add mono on top of the fireline till it is full.

Now take the mono off and put it onto another reel.

Take the fireline off and put it on another different reel.

Put the mono on the reel it is to be backing for.

Put the fireline on over the top of the mono and the reel should be full.

Make sense? :-)

So in summary, all of the above info in a nut shell means... Do it in reserve order first to figure out how much mono backing you will need.
