G'day to all,
I,ve been handed an old Penn no. 155 reel. Does anyone have any idea
as to what fishing situation it is best used for? any good casting off a breakwall?
Thanks in advance and happy fishing!
Brett.

Hi, welcome to Ausfish! I have one of these reels, I'm not a fan of overhead reels for casting unless you use a bit of lead and cast with the wind, not into it. Just my personal taste, at 49 I'm a bit too late (and don't have the spare time!) to start serious practising, which I've found that for me at least is pretty essential! My 155 is spooled with 7kg and makes an excellent light snapper/bait jig reel, they have a pretty good drag and are light and easy to use, great for out of the boat. I think they were marketed in the states as a surf reel at one point, but an Alvey or decent threadline would eat it for general casting situations IMHO. I'm sure you get some other informed opinions, have fun with it!
