Hi,

I want to get rid of my Okuma Avenger 2000 and want to upgrade to something better. I am wondering from Daiwa and Shimano which reels are better in the 1500 to 2500 sizes to match a rack raider rod. My budget is up to around $200.00 There seems to be a whole range of reels which i could buy but am wondering which would suit the rack raider rod nicely as well as which would be best quaility for the money I am willing to pay. I use it for SP's and sometimes to soak a bait when I get lazy.

All help and advice is appreciated.

umm most ppl here would use the best reel,s i guess so i would take daiwa team sol 2500 or caldia kix 2500..... as they would be around $300.00 ... so ummm for your budget i think might be one of the shimano reel ... but not take a sustain reel due to a problem with the spool.... ok you should shop now cos it,s xmas special,s deal there now so good lucky ...

Hi Ismail, My choice would be the Shimano Stradic 2500............around $240 but being an ausfish member you may be able to get it cheaper through Sundown Marine.
The shimano Symetre 2500 retails for around $150 so this is within your budget and they are a good smooth reel for the price.

I'll second all that.

Hi All

Me too.

Stradics are on special at Campbells Pro Tackle (www.##################.com.au) at the moment - $185 I think.

Cheers

Don't say that Peter... I just bought a Symetre this last week for not much less than that ($149.00). It is a 2500 and seems to be a very nice reel. Can't wait for the next trip to give it a whirl.

Ismail, I looked a a few before deciding. I would be very surprised if my Symetre turns out to be anything less than great. But your choice.

Thanks for the advice

I just bought a stradic 2500 for $147.50 of ebay. It is brand new and I know of a few others who bought stuff of this company and were very impressed.

I've got both the stradic and symetre in the 2500 size and am very happy with both. Both have taken a beating from large fish and are still going strong.

Seems like Im too late to throw in my 2c, but I reckon for the $ value, the Penn Applause is hard to beat particularly since it has a full aluminium body. I have the 2000 ($130) and 8000 ($150) and they both perform faultlessly.
