well, i was always just running a swivel between my braid
and mono leader as i dont like tying knotts to much.
recently after fishing with somebody who was tying them
together i am gonna give it another crack. #so the question is
what knott are you using, i did some research on yahoo and
got a little confused.................. so hear i go...
can i just tye using an albright or should i use a say
bimini twist with albright conection, or spider hitch with
shock knot....
any help would be great as the more i read the more i
am confusing myself................... #
thanks in advance
dale

i Just use an albright. hasnt failed yet. joining either 6lb braid to 8lb mono or 30lb braid to 60lb leader havent had any problems as yet. But since learning the bimini ive been using that then the albright to attach the leader.

What line strengths are you using and what sort of fishing is it for?

For something like 6lbs fireline to 6lbs vanish for soft plastic work i just use an Albright.

For something like 30lbs fireline to 30+mono I personally would use a Bimini twist and then an albright (or even a modified albright)

Others may have other ways.

I only just learnt to tie the bimini twist so I will stick with that for a while.

By the way the twist is actually very easy to tie when you have it figured out. Only took me 3 practices to nail it.

I use a double uni knot for joining mono to braid. Never had a problem with breaks at the knot.

had a couple cracks at it and i think i
had the same drama of not putting
the winds tight enough so they would slip
under pressure. i took a shot of it
completed so heres what she looks like

Looks good Dale, but the start of the bimini looks a bit loose.

You'll only have to do a few to perfect it. ;)

thanks heath,
i tried a couple of them out wrapped around
a cleat and thay keep snapping at the top of the
twist, the part that you said looked a little loose.
i put some spit on the next one i pulled tight and it
also snapped at the neck. is their a certain amount
of winds on the downward or just when she pulls up tight??
will try a few later on again.

hey dale, the best start is to get plenty of tension through the area you twisted before wrapping the tag back down, the tag end raps should be under considerable tension as well, then before it all slips a half hitch around one of the strands locks it before completing the finishing wrap.

the wraps going down should cover the twists you made to start with.

an improved albright knot with superglue will work quiet well without tieing a double, if thats 50lb bionic id probably not worry about the bimni, im guessing its 30 if you can break it without much fuss. when you get a snag its virtually impossible to bust the 50lb if youve tied a good double.

Geez doesn't it suck when your knotts are that good you can't bust them ;D ;D

I will have to agree with all of the above , however i tie a double even as light as 4lb braid .
I find the smaller diameter braid has a much higher chance of biting through the mono in the 1albright, and by giving it a double will decrase the chances of that happeninng .

I have had plenty of albrights bust on light braid / mono combos without the double , but neve had one get done in since tying the double on the light stuff
just as easy to do the bimini if not easier !

Dale, that picture is not an albright. It is a double uni. Unless in a double some people refer to the same knot with a different name??

That is what I use on all my joins up to and kncluding 20lb braid. 10 wraps on the braid and 5 on the heavier mono leader. 4 wraps if over about 40lb leader.

I had used it as well with my heavy gear, but found the knots too lumpy over the guides, so switched to a bimini with a braid leader knot. Much thinner and so far has not let me down.

When I do my bimini, I do it in my hand rather than stuffing around with using my foot to hold the loop. Just end up with a much smaller loop. And is really quick.
