hey fellas finally decided its time to buy my new trolling outfit ;D iv decided on a Tyrnos 30 im going to be running 15kg braid on it. i have narrowed it down to 1 of either 2 rods a Shimano Tyrnos T-Curve or a Live Fibre dose any one have any reviews on these rods. i have a few questions regarding a few different things. first off i will be targeting small bills and large tuna and wahoo. when it comes to the rating of the rod as in 10-15kg and 15-24kg which 1 will be more suited to what i want to do i would prefer to go 10-15kg but im not to sure as im only new to blue water fishing. im also abit lost on the roller tip or non roller tip thing what advantages dose a roller tip give u are they really that important. i was also wondering what line is best to use. both mono and braid as i will not be spooling it all with braid.
any help would be great thanks for your time
cheers bowds
i would go mono for starters.. definately no roller tip though if you do as the braid can slip in between the roller and rod, 15-24kg would be my choice for a trolling setup and the live fibre trolling rods are quite nice.. but pretty expensive, the t-curves are well matched to the tyrnos and could be an option.. but in the end I think it will just come down to personal choice as there are plenty of suitable options

G'day
I'll second that az has just said. Definatly NO BRAID on a trolling outfit. There's plenty of good mono around, I like the platypus stuff myself but there's others out there. You cannot go wrong with either rods you mentioned. Go the 10-15kg rod for a sporting outfit, but the 15-24kg will be more suited to the tyrnos. Something in the 5'6 or 6' lengths. As for roller tip I have little experiance with, but they are more suited to trolling, so they do have their advantages.

I took out a mate yesterday with a outfit of similar nature. Tekota 700 on Back Bone rod 15 KG with roller tip. I saw it yesterday make 15 Kg Spanish Maulers look like bream. Trolling Lively Lure Mac Baits, this outfit was very successful and would suggest it to anyone.

Why the mono instead of braid for trolling. Must be a reason for it as it has been the preferred choice.
Megatop, the streach in mono help to prevent hooks from tearing out of fish on the strike and the fight, a mate and I went head to head a couple of years ago, him 30lb mono me 30lb braid trolling hex heads at 14knots, his score of 11 hook ups for 10 landed and me, 8 strikes ( note diff between hookup and strike) for 2 fish landed. The fish were spanish macks to 15kg and mack tuna to about 5 kg. Hope this helps.
