Well I have a Pajero wagon and it doesn't have a bull bar and didn't have roof racks when I got it. So I had the same dilemma and the only option was to have rods running through the car and sticking out a window (if I was surf fishing) or buy roof racks. I decided to go the roof racks. Here is a pic of a board with pvc pipes to hold rods in place that I made to sit on top of the roof racks secured by octopus straps. Easy to remove. #;)

Hi Jason

My nephew had the same dilema, so he bought
these suction cap type mount rod holders,
and even tho I was dubious about whether they
would hold or not, he has carried rods off road and up the
beach for a couple of years now with no dramas yet.

He does, however, remove the reels.

Harry.

What size rods are we talking about matey as some people I know have a set of the rubber ones on the inside up on their roof. Not much chance of getting broken or pinched in there :)
