is there anyway to improve this? the line is thick at the ends and skinny in the middle. it is not exccesive, but very noticable, or is it part and parcel of the dated technology?

cheers

Yeah mate, thats one thing the tss4 does a poor job on, laying the line evenly. Its much worse when your using braid, i went back to mono and its layed a touch better but hasnt got the caliber or class of a stradic when it comes to line lay. You could add some thing to the spool in the middle to try and even it out, but not worth it IMO.

Time for shimano to bring out a new model tss4 with some extra class that doesnt hurt the hip pocket... stellas dont count !

I reckon they all do it. some may do it more than others.

cheers, my line lay is exactly the same as yours heath, so not to much to worry about, i'm trying a new mono saltwater hard? (i think, threw spool awy) 30lb is the same diameter as what 15lb would be in a mono.

Briad aint all the dear if you look around.

That reel is loaded up with 30lb Spider Wire Stealth.

its very easy to over come ,just hand pack the first 50 or so meters the opposite way and then put the spool on the reel and wind the rest of the line on ,you may need to do this once or twice to get it spot on ,it will also give you a few % more in distance ,

I level the spool by hand before the final couple of hundred metres of line go on. Seems to work OK

i've been told to add another washer underneath the spool to reposition it further forward in relation to the line roller. the line should then lay alot better. never tried it myself, decided to retire the old faithful and get a stradic instead...but it makes sense
