I have a 2500 I have had for years and a while back the mechinism that controls the bail arm broke, so I could'nt cast, just took it back to the fishing shop, the shimano rep picked it up on his rounds and when I got it back, as good as new. I did'nt even have to produce a reciept.

Plus what a great reel to learn plastics on

the sedona comes with the legendary shimano 10 yr warranty, how can you lose

is the 2500 big enough for squire snapper

THat will depend on depth your fishing in, as with any 2500 line capacity is limited in thicker line.

thanks for the tips guys,
keep em coming if you have any,

hey BR65 what size sedona is ures?,

I put a full 300m of 4lb braid on my 2500 symetre. I'll pull half off and re-fill with backing when i turn it around this summer as i got a 1500 symetre recently a discovered they are the same reel body, just different depth in the spool. fully interchangeable spools and all other parts too.

The sedona is the same, in that the 1500 and 2500 are the same reel with different depth spools.

cheers, roo

EDIT: Missed the point a bit.......2500 has plenty of line capacity in the 4-15lb braid size for bay squire/snapper. I've been onto the kingfish and longtail tuna with mine and managed to stop them with out running out of line (8lb braid).

I fit around 200m of 10lb on my 2500's. This is what I use for the bay, though I do fish in 10m or less.

no worries,
I am going to go grab that combo this afternoon,

how do these reels handle the saltwater?,
i never seem to keep reels from locking up with salt etc

check out the other thread in this section on how to clean rods anf reels properly. with proper and prompt maintainence, this combo should last a long time. If you ignore it, than it will die very quickly in harsh salt environment. Mine regularly cop a bit of a salt soaking when using them offshore and in the bay, but washing them when i get home has avoided any dramas to date.

Good luck with your new toy.
Cheers, Roo.

G'day
I run 2 sedonas, one 4000 and a 2500. Booth with the rear drag because thats my preferance. Both brilliant little reels and would reccomend them to anyone.

just went down there and no more sedonas left,
they are expecting more through the week, however the catana rods are all gone for good,

the guy said they could do one of the shimano sss rods for the same price but i just dont know if thats such a good deal now.

Try A -mart #########... they will beat any advertised price by 10% . I bought my Sedona there cheap so they may be able to do you a cheap combo. Dont know about the catana rod tho.

Hmmmm,

Interesting reading....

I'm thinking of getting a light-ish spinning combo for barra up here in the north. There's little point in putting say, 6-8kilo braid on a small egg-beater if the drag's only good for 4kg. I recently purchased a Daiwa capricorn 4500 and have been delighted with the drag system on them. I've teamed this up with a Penn powerstick which has filled the gap in my near shore stores.

As smoothe as... but the 2500 just looks like it won't handle a 'lock-up' if I'm trying to turn the fish away from the snags. Do the (smaller) Sedona's have a gruntier drag system than the Capricorns??

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks guys
Mozza

simple answer mozza ....... No. smaller spool = smaller drag surface area. the capricorns are reknown as having a very good drag.

If you want something to turn barra about in a compact size, try the Daiwa Certate 3500 HD. not much change from 700 bucks but from all reports it will do what you want it to do without raising a sweat ;)

I've been successful as well, thanks to you guys.

Roo, I looked at the Certate but found the weight (and the price) an issue. I was sold by the guys at the local "warehouse" on a Daiwa CY3000. Took a punt on the drag - the guy wasn't sure but I ratified it as 6kg on the Internet. The guys then matched it up with a 6" 10-14lb Procaster.

Took it for a SP/Bomber test yesterday on the reef flats and mangroves and was delighted with the results. All the old spinning wrist flicks started to come back and my 'floral hookups' were far less than usual. No jacks about but caught a number of small GT to ~40cm and 'cuda (God, I hate those lure-destroying, head-shaking, b@stard, hell-spawn).

Enough sensitivity in the tip but plenty of grunt in the belly of the rod - can't wait to catch the first barra on it.

Total price: $365 with some you-beaut flouro-orange 6kg braid on the spool.

Xmas is early in my house!!

I've got the sedona and I couldn't agree more with what the fellas have said. Has been a great little reel and everything's still going well 2 years after I first purchased it.
