looking to get a good rod reel to fish SP's for bream flatties. I am only new to this style of fishing and have had great success with sp's on the flatties on me old rig [too heavy] but think it's time to get serious for the approching brem season.
I would prefer a rod of 6-7 ft with cork grips and as light as possible in the 2-4 kg range. A light spin reel with the ability to cast light weight long distance, spooled up with some braid or other recomended line.

So can anyone recomend a reel, rod, and line to use that won't go over my $150 budget.

I recently picked up a rig such as you are looking at. I got a very good price on a Penn Applause 2000 and a Strudwick 2-4 kg. The whole setup cost me less than $140.00. A good alternative for the rod would be the Berkley Dropshot

Cheers

No boat,
The mart with an A have got a Penn Captiva, Penn Rodd and and a spool of Penn line on special for $99. The captiva has 11 bearings and is apparently a reasonable sort of a reel. Shimano have also got an SP combo for $99 presently on sale at the same place. Probably worth a look.
Good luck,
Dave

Please do yourself a favour and look at the pflueger trion 7ft 2-5 kg soft plastic rod matched with a shimano sienna 1000fb with 6 lb fireline, its still my choice of rod for bream and flathead and the reel has a very smooth drag, i really rate this outfit.

Grab a Steve Starling 7' Squidgy rod $89,

http://www.##################.com/store/product.asp?ID=2630

match with Shimano Sienna 2500 $55

http://www.gotyatackle.com/store/product.asp?ID=2785

& this will keep you under your budget for sure & will be able to handle the job with ease!

I use the same setup with 6lb fireline & have landed some decent bream & flatties on it.. ;D

The Store with an A has a 7 foot Shimano Backbone Rod with a Shimano Sedona 2500 for $169.00. What a great outfit. A little over the price you were after, but an option.
