Whiting and big flathead have been the dominant species throughout the southern Bay, Jumpinpin and Broadwater over the past week.
The flathead are being caught during the day on live herring and the better whiting catches are coming at night on bloodworms, small yabbies or in the Logan River, small fresh prawns.
The main area the big flathead have come from is between the Pin bar and Crusoe Island and around the Southport Seaway.
Spots to try for whiting are Gold and Green Bank in Tiger Mullet Channel, Pandanus Island south to the Bedrooms and the banks between Cabbage Tree and Little Rocky Point.
In Moreton Bay there have been small squire with just the odd legal fish from the shallows of Peel Island and on the rubble bank on the eastern side of Green Island.
There are good quality snapper being caught offshore, as they should be at this time of year, if only the weather would allow anglers to get out and catch a few.
Some of the better spots include Deep Tempest, Shallow Tempest, breaks in the kelp beds off the Cape and dominant bottom structure on the 18s, 29s and 36s.
Live slimies or yellowtail on floater rigs up off the bottom seems to be producing the better quality fish.
There are also good numbers of very big cobia being caught off the Southport Seaway, on the bait grounds off the Pin Bar and at the Group off Point Lookout.
There are still good choppers being caught on the surf side of Moreton Island and the rocks at Honeymoon Bay as well as consistent reports from North Stradbroke especially around the Dunwich track Causeway.
They are a little unpredictable around the Pin, your best chance is early morning right in the Pin bar itself.
Quite a few school jew were caught in the Logan River over the past few weeks.
They are feeding on schools of better quality prawns that are being strife-netted by professionals above the Albert River junction.
Look for deeper holes, especially if there is some rock associated with them and fish a large prawn or small poddy mullet.

G'day Nugget,

Hello from Nada, Thought it's my turn to have a chat, as you may know we are going on a houseboat this weekend. We appreciate the advice on some of the spots you mentioned. We hope to catch a few fish, hopefully some big ones, we will let you know when we get back and thanks for the local fishing report we know and trust.

Hi Nada - Tell Luke to relax and enjoy the holiday - you too.
The golden houseboat rule is ALWAYS move on a rising tide.
The big suckers will find a sand bank quicker than my prop does!
Good luck.
