Isn’t it annoying how we can have great conditions all week with little wind, then the weekend comes and it blows 30 knots.
If you’re an offshore angler the trick is to get out and back early as the wind seems to build up in the mid morning period.
Those that did manage to get offshore caught squire, pearl perch and amberjack.
There were some good catches off Cape Moreton and on the 29s but the better quality fish were on the wider ground in the Deep Tempest area.
The good news is that the sheltered inshore waters, particularly the Logan, is fishing great for whiting, school jew and flathead.
Barry Hanson and Glen Whitely worked the edges of sand banks around the green beacons in the Logan catching a good feed of a dozen whiting each in the middle of the day on a run in tide.
They also caught and released a big female flathead.
Andrew Buchbach landed a 46cm whiting weighing 760g on Sunday and although not giving away any secrets, Andrew said he moved around a fair bit working the edge of sand banks near Squire Island using shop bought crib Island worms for bait.
School jew have been another surprise this week with quite a few caught from Giants Grave on the western side of Russell Island, Marks Rocks near the mouth of the Logan and between Swan Bay back to the yellow special mark at Crusoe Island.
The most successful technique has been to drift a lightly weighted small mullet or banana prawn, especially on the slower tides or around the turn of the tide.
Mud crabs are still a bit scarce around the Pin area but a few anglers have reported good catches from the Albert and Logan, particularly above the junction.
There are good numbers of sandies in the central and northern Bay, particularly around Mud Island and the foreshores either side of the Brisbane River mouth.
On the freshwater scene, there have been good bass in Hinze Dam hanging off the points in six to eight meters of water.
Cooby Dam outside Toowoomba is another that is producing fish: good numbers of goldens are being caught on dark coloured lures.
