Land based anglers have been scoring a good feed from the Pimpama, Coomera and Nerang over the past week.
Catches have included flathead, whiting, bream, trevally and the odd chopper tailor.
Pick of the spots for late season bream and a few trevally has been the foreshores of Jabiru Island at Boykambil, however the better whiting catches have come from the foreshores along the Broadwater Esplanade and the Nerang River at Buds Beach.
The pick of the spots for flathead has been around the Gold Coast Bridge and around the Spit Boat ramp.
Numbers of chopper tailor have dropped right off with the only consistent reports coming from right in the Pin Bar in the early morning and late evening.
The majority of catches at the Pin have been whiting and flathead but weed is still a major problem making it impossible to troll lures or drift with any success.
Soaking a pillie in sheltered Tiger Mullet Channel or in the deeper stretches of channel at the back of Tabby Island or in Canaipa Passage has been the most productive method to score a feed of flathead while this weed is so thick.
Sand crabs are making a welcome appearance throughout Moreton Bay with the better numbers coming from the deeper water in the central and northern parts however favourite haunts around the southern Bay islands are just starting to produce a few keepers.
Muddies have been a little harder to find with the better catches coming from way up in the backwaters of small creeks and drains.
Reports from Moreton Bay have not been too promising with small, undersize squire the dominant fish caught however there have been some better quality squire at the Comboyuro ledge and a few cobia around the Curtin Artificial and the wrecks.
Winter whiting are still on most banks with the Amity and Naval Reserve producing the numbers and quality however the more sheltered Pelican Bank should be worth a try if the wind is blowing too hard.
On the freshwater scene, Hinze Dam regulars are reporting excellent quality bass being caught around the weed edges of the Dam in the early morning and in the deeper drop offs during the day.
There were also record catches during the Kirkleagh Classic indicating that Somerset is also on fire.

No problem Poppy - make sure you email me when you get out and have a fish.
The more info that I get the more accurate the reports are.

Cheers for now
