The sweetlip were around on sunday, went to Harrys

most boats had brought in some good sweetlip, there were
3 on my boat and we kept 9 ranging from 38 to 44, there
were lots just legal or under, plus a lot of small squire, on the
runout went to the rock wall in rous ch and they were still
around, kept 2 more 40,41 plus one parrot at 39. had floaters out for mackeral at both locations but to no avail.
sweetlip used whole small squid on 3/0 x 2 ganged swiveled
rig, drifted most of the time. when to the same spots last
weekend but not much around , big tides this weekend and
new moon.

Mate,
i have found that a lot of people that come into work I(springwood marie) say that 4 nights after the moons are a good time to hit the reef!
have you noticed anything in the fish going off on certion moon stages?

A few rules i fish by
Full moon, i never fish shallow waters when the moon is
directly above, but only the first couple of hours on it rise and the last couple of hours before seting they seem to come on the bite better, but in deeper water 15m + they seem to stay
on the bit longer, i suppose mainly due to light penatration.
i also find 2-3 days after full bite periods last longer.
it works the same with new moon early am or late pm
especially if highs are around 4-5-6am or 5-6-7 pm
most of the bay reef foreshores i go further into towards
the shore especially on big tides, they seem to feed closer
in around the 1.5-2m depths, turn of the tides i drop back
to the edge of deeper water .
2-3 days either side of new and full over the years i have
found to be the best.
(suppose youve heard all this before)
another moon phase is i only fish the evening on the last
quarters or cresent or the early mornings first quarters or
cresents, what that means is if the moon is black on the
right side if fish early morning and the reverse for evening
hope i have bored you , but the above seems to work for me
in both bay and estuary. i also find that in chopper conditions
your baits behave more eratic on the bottom and your bite
rate increase, compared to dead calm days. thats why
i dont mind fishing in 15-20 kts as long as it has some
shelter
hope i have improved your already fish riddle mind
if you ever want a trip out to dialba passage to one of the
best flat head grounds in the bay give us a call, you could
try your fly or lure expertise
