There have been some nice pan size sweetlip and squire around the Bay islands with the best catches coming at night and in the early morning.
The shallow surrounds of Mud and Green islands and South West Rocks off Peel have been the pick of the locations and fresh squid or unweighted hardiheads cast on to the coral edges have been the best baits.
In the southern Bay it is worthwhile trying the eastern side of Coochiemudlo Island and the northern tip of Macleay.
There have been some big cobia in the Bay including the usual spots on the wrecks and reefs down the western side of Moreton Island but there have also been a few caught in unlikely locations like the southern tip of Goat Island, probably chasing the schools of baitfish that congregate in the area, and on the edge of the Amity Banks where they are most likely chasing dive whiting.
There have been some excellent whiting catches in the Logan River around the green beacons of Aggeston Sands.
The run out tide on the edge of the main channels have been the best using tiny prawns, small yabbies or bloodworms.
Mud crabs were in good numbers over the past week and should be worth the effort for another week on this moon phase.
There have been good mixed bags of whiting, flathead, chopper tailor and the occasional school jew caught around the Pin area.
The better catches of whiting have been around the sand banks and yabbie grounds at the eastern end of Tiger Mullet Channel and the flathead, chopper tailor and school jew have been caught on the undulating sand banks between the entrance to Swan Bay and the point of Crusoe.
The best way to catch a feed is to drift the area with a live bait, pillie or fresh fillet.
A large live prawn is also a great bait if you can get them and a sure-fire way to attract a mangrove jack in this area.
The Redland Bay Amateur Fishing Club will hold a public seminar night on February 20 at the Redland Bay Community Hall at 7.30pm, entry will be a gold coin.
Speakers will include the Club’s 2001 inshore champion Wally Nimis, long time local and pro crabber Allan Hill will talk on all aspects of crabbing and Steve Watson, well known mackerel angler will talk of targeting these speedsters in Moreton Bay.
