Just back from our twice yearly 4 day venture, fishing, trolling the length of breaksea spit and around the light ship off the top of fraser.
Weather was perfect, except for the northerleys which kept things quiet.
In the speedster we nailed longies, macks, spandiards, wahoo and 1 big couta.
Reefies ranged from tuskies, lippers, emperors, a diverse range of cod, wrasse, and only 1 snapper.
Throw in buckets loads of hussar, and alfie langers.
Most reefies came on bottom bashers, with floaters of slimies and yellowtail coming in second.
The speedsters came on trolled kangas and unweighted slimies. The slimies won in the end.
Weaponery ranged ffrom 27-15kg broom sticks, coupled up to tiagra 50's--25's, penn 114h and 330's.
Best in the razor gang 18kg wahoo and 16kg spaniards.
Best in the reefies 22kg cod, 12kg red, 9kg wrasse.
Some serious bust offs, mainly by the grey suits and a lot of heads boated.
Also trialed some 6" shads complements of Ausfish, and had some success on them.
The top of the bay off rooneys wednesday morning on our way back, was a boiling mass of mac's.
If you missed one school, it only took a few minutes to find another.
By lunch our shiamos 650's and penn 650's were smokin and our arms 6" longer (great fun) on 45g raiders and halcos.
We have another trip planned soon, and if you want a trip that will fill most of your dreams, give us a call as we have 1 0r 2 spots still to fill.
But if your prone to a little berleying over the sides, forget it, as we are out for nearly 4 days.
and only return if your break a arm or a leg.
some pics below.

Bloody hell Brian, do I spy some Baldy Bream in amongst those pics ?

Good to get back on a deck which doesn't move under your feet.

2 days at sea is usually long enough for me, although I did a 7 dayer once ( 120ft ship #).

Brian,

Nice trip mate (worried about your company :o) Don't thise iodine bream stink after they're dead. We found them the best bait off Fraser this year. Seem to outperform everything in the flesh bait stakes.

I could be interested in the next trip - let me know more details when you get a chance.

brian, well done.did you catch the reds using hussar?ive been on 5 trips up there with geoff(time and tide charters)and the fishing has always been awesome.it really is the place to only bring the heavy gear, maybe a 10kg outfit for jigging bait ;D

Geoff the skipper Time and Tide. We try and do two trip a year, but the weather has squashed one earlier.
But condition were great, except the northerlies the last 36hours which quietened thing down.
We take all our own gear, as there are some monster up there especially in the trench off the light ship, some are just unstopable.
Sharks gave us curry this trip, if we didnt pull in one head we must have pulled in a dozen.
Even had a 18ft tigery cruise passed and give us the big stare before departing to the depths.
What we do is book the boat for 6 only, he usally takes around 9.
Costs are 565.00,
Geoff does what ever we want to do, bottom bash, floaters, trolling or chasing surface activity.
not much big stuff this trip, even the spaniards/wahoo were quiet. no big tuna only macks which we catch and release but great fun.
The good thing about the area is not many visit it, mainly due to the distance.
but wouldnt miss them for anything. now its back to the old bay fishing :P
As for the old iodine bream, one of the blokes thats comes with us likes the bloody thing so we keep them just for him. And they dont stink, just the taste.
