Went for a solo run out to the 18m on tuesday, apparently it was going to blow 10-15 se then change to an ne arvo sea breeze. Line of thinking was that I punch my way out, then have a nice trip back ion the arvo.
I got to the 10m and began to think it wasn't a really bright idea, the 1-1.5 mtr chop/ swell was quite ugly, so I kept punching my way out. eventually got to the 18m and adjusted the backbone and checked to see if the rest of the boat was in one piece, adjusted the sounder to check for baitfish and the power cable plug at the back of the furuno fell to pieces. After a bit of a check I decide to turn around and punch my way home again. Excellent.
The control box was bolted to the side of the boat by 3 spacers and stainless bolts. Two of these sheared at about the 12m mark, whichmade the rest of the ride home interesting.
I suppose you gotta have some shockers sometimes.
It still beat workin
