Got a knock on the door late yesterday afternoon and it was Mick (Sandman) saying "have you got a camera?"

He's been crabbing down the mouth of the Brisbane River for a few days now and pulling some nice bucks but nothing as good as yesterday.

The biggest went about 19cm across the carapace. The next wasn't much smaller and the there was another just legal. Not bad for four pots.

Don't ask for the details as I don't know but the fresh must have flushed a few of the big old fellas out as they were dark brown and very very heavy.

What trouble? The crabs all but walked over to Bugmans, let themselves in, put a pot of boiling water on the stove and all jumped in. All while bugman was sleeping in the hammock out the back yard. What a fisherman! #;D #;D #;D

Cheers Bret,

Wayne i offered one to Bret but he declined :o Anyways i have been crabbing for the last 2 weeks solid in a few areas namely the Brisbane river!!
Now these crabs are safe to eat before i get rumbled for eating toxic crabs.
Although when you start getting quality crabs luike these you do wonder what they eat!
Bret kindly off loaded his whoo heads and scaps last week , and my theory for these fellows big bait big crabs as the small stuff has produced small crabs.
My totall number in the pots last night was 20 crabs out of that lot in 4 pots was these 3 monsters , we caught 10 others last week but not of that quality. Its interesting to note up until the rain we did not get one Jenny in the pots now after the rain there are jennies galore !!! Anyone know the reason behind this ?

Sand crabs are being caught from the gateway all the way down if you are into them , the mouth is also holding these muddies and if you are game its best to leave them in all night but the thiefs are out !!! >:(

Thanks again Bret now need to get more bait this weekend bring on the whoo ( hopefully).

Nice colours on that last pic.
Donged a couple myself on the weekend.
Walked right to my spot on top of every body elses floats. ;D
Its truly amazing that with probably another 8 or 9 pots in the immediate area I still managed two nice ones.
Good pics.

Great Crabs boys!
Isn't it great how recycled offcuts from offshore trips turn into tasty crustaceans the over the next few days!!

Love the last shot bugman;

Nice to see some good muddies come out of the river after the fresh. Didn't see any maltese crosses but they sure looked apetising. It's motivated me to have a go next week. Friday tides suit me so I'll get back to you if the top of Pimpama is firing. Otherwise, I'll just have to drool over your pic's again. :-? :-?
