View Full Version : toyota cruiser 4500 valve guide seals

:)hey guys,

i am getting a bit of smoke from the cruiser first thing in the morning on start up and also when its been idling for a while at the lights etc etc smells of oil and i suspect valve guide seals are starting to break up and fail have any of you boys experianced this and ifso how much did you pay to get the seals replaced? i am new to the area and dont know of any reliable mechanics or workshops to trust to carry out the work as i have no friends with 4x4,s up this way to advise i would be greatfull of any advice you can offer me regarding this issue ;D

Hammonds at Capalaba may be able to help you.
They are a 4x4 shop specialising in Jeeps.
One of the mechanics might touch a Toyota if you ask nicely.

thanks for the reply,sorry mate i did not say where i was based :-[ oooooppps!!!!lol i am up on the sunny coast near mooloolaba just had a look at where capalaba is lol bit of a treck from up here!!! thanks anyway mate for your help i will get a price from them and it will be a start.

You are on the right track I think . Valve stem seals or worn valve guides . On some engines you can replace the seals without removing the head - not sure if the cruiser is one of these . If the head comes off you may as well do a head recon. anyway to make it worthwhile . You are now talking bucks $$$$$$ though . Not much change from a grand I reckon . :'( :'( . Sorry not from the Sunnycoast so cannot help with that .

thanks mate for the reply,ill have a ring round and get a few quotes and see whats what with the price thing! its not that bad at the moment at all not burning lots of oil but its only gonna get worse so i thought i would start to look into the pros and cons etc
