Hi, Are Range Rovers and Land Rovers are they V8's and are they any good on the beach and that?

The Range Rover V8 is one of the best and most capable 4x4's ever made.
Good examples can be had for a great price when they get to the ten year mark.
They do cost to repair so beware.

People talk about cost of maintaining vehicles, this one cost more etc. Most common 4x4's would cost simular for parts, the labour component may differ greatly with the types of work done. start doing diffs, gearboxes and they cost a bloody fortune and the more you take them off the road the more the cost esculate, dont matter what ya got

landrovers were built as an offroad vehicle first then a road vehicle - that's why their acceleration suck but even an old 4 cyl has-been like mine will keep pulling at revs that would stall any other car. Their clearances are excellent & they match (always have) power to gear ratio very well to maintain contact.

the range rovers were introduced to to compete a middle class american market that offroaded on weekends - the brief landrover built it to though was not to compromise their offroad rep. - the current Range Rovers have some mind blowing suspension & transmission technology but cost well over 100 gorillas

the discos were introduced to offer a cheaper but still capable alternative to Range Rover & the whole asian assault on the market

The freelander is the compact size thing - but I think missed the market as it is more costly & too capable offroad for a market of wannabes who value speed instead.

Have look under a standard jap 4wd then look under a Landrover/Rangerover - what is regarded as standard is miles apart. Some of the hiluxes leading edge from underneath is effectively the radiator for christsake, & some offer no protection for the sump etc etc etc

hey so what your saying is that the Range Rovers and Land Rovers are made for the beach and not on road?. Like are the V8's good on the road?

I had a V8 110 County and it was great on and off the road, but it was never intended to be a sports car. The only thing against it was it was very thirsty and was costing to much to run. I now have a TD5 diesel 110 Defender and while not as fast as the V8 its heap cheaper to run, and goes anywhere.

G'day all,
Well I own a 2002 Land Rover Defender 130 Dual Cab Ute with the TD5 motor. This vehicle IMHO is the best fourby I have ever owned. I started out with a Suzuki Sierra which was fun till it rolled over. Next I went into a 'Cruiser Ute running on dual fuel which was good but didn't like cold starts or sand driving very much. After that I went into a Hilux Ute which was bumpy as all hell but otherwise capable enough. Most recently I was in an Isuzu Bighorn (Holden Jackaroo) with the intercooled 3.1 litre deisel donk. This vehicle could climb like a mountain goat but was vague on the sand at the best of times.
Now, concerning Land Rovers and sand: Bullet proof!
I have taken the defender through some serious dunes and more than one soft beach and it simply refuses to get bogged!
AAA+ would be my verdict and I would gladly reccomend this vehicle to any prospective purchaser without reservation. 8) [smiley=cool2.gif]

There's starting to come now - support is rolling in mr firend so you'd better bite the bullet and just go and BLOODY BUY ONE !!!!!

In the sand they really are unstoppable although I will admit that the two times I've mud driven in the girl - I thought she could have done better. Maybe it was driver error #;D

Other than Nick - has anyone else looked at fitting an aftermarket intercooler like this.

I am impressed that Iggmans is shinny and looks kinda sexy. But next time he goes 4x4 he should take a pic, those highway terrain shots are not much chop.

Those cars do have impressive airbags, but i'll stick with my Landy. Bugman I got a tunit chip for mine but was not real impressed with it, it still doesn't take off till the turbo kicks in. I haven't touched the exhaust or intercooler.
